What are slip lid boxes?
Slip lid boxes consist of two separate parts: a lid that is slipped over the base - hence the name. They are usually rectangular or square, but can also be made in round or custom shapes. The double layer of material in the lid and base makes them particularly sturdy and gives them an attractive appearance.
They are often simply referred to as ‘boxes with lids’ and are the perfect choice for high-quality products, presentations or gifts. Typical areas of application include jewellery, cosmetics, electronics, confectionery and watches. Combined with inlays or inserts, they hold the contents securely in place and can be opened and closed intuitively.

Material options
There are various materials to choose from for cardboard slip lid boxes. Solid cardboard is particularly popular, offering a high-quality feel and stable quality with a thickness of 1 mm or 1.5 mm. We use grey cardboard, which is made from 100% recycled material and laminated on one side in black or white.
For larger quantities, special colours are also available, which can be perfectly matched to the coating paper, for example. If you are looking for a lighter yet robust alternative, corrugated cardboard is the ideal choice. On request, we can also produce your boxes with FSC® certification, allowing you to combine a sustainable choice of materials with an elegant product presentation.

Freedom of design for cover paper
When it comes to cover paper, there are virtually no limits to your creativity. You can choose between single-colour or multi-colour offset printing, or opt for dyed, textured or smooth papers. We regularly use high-quality Wibalin® papers from Winter & Company, such as the CORVON® series, which creates a metallic surface texture, as in our 0230 PLAIN series in bronze.
Please note that not all paper has been tested by our machines - in some cases, we therefore check the processing individually. Simply contact us and we will be happy to advise you.
For finishing, we also rely primarily on our sophisticated hot foil stamping process, which allows logos, lettering or patterns to be presented in a particularly high-quality manner.

Offset printing:
Unlimited possibilities.
Offset printing is one of the highest quality printing processes and is primarily used when precision and brilliant colours are required. The process transfers the ink indirectly onto the paper via a printing plate, producing razor-sharp results with a uniform colour effect.
For your slip lid boxes, this means virtually unlimited design options in countless colours. Whether single-colour, multi-colour or with large-scale designs, everything looks clear, brilliant and professional. Offset printing really comes into its own with larger print runs, delivering consistently high quality even with large quantities.
Sustainability & Handling
Sustainability and recyclability
Our slip lid boxes can be made entirely from recycled materials. FSC®-certified cardboard and coating papers are available, as is packaging made entirely without plastic. Their low weight also saves resources. Many customers reuse the boxes – the higher the quality, the more likely they are to do so. This makes them part of the brand experience, for example as storage boxes.
Production takes place either in Germany or, at particularly attractive prices, in the Far East. Here, the rule is: longer delivery times, but unbeatable prices. Far East production becomes particularly attractive if you want more than just the standard – whether that be grinding, bands or high-quality finishes.
Easy handling for end customers
Slip lid boxes can be opened and closed intuitively, without any tabs or adhesive strips. This ensures a high-quality unboxing experience and an emotional moment when unpacking. The lid provides reliable protection, even after repeated opening and closing.
Many end customers continue to use the boxes, for example as storage boxes, which means they remain a permanent part of the brand experience. Their elegant appearance and sturdy workmanship ensure that they always look high-quality. And best of all, the boxes are versatile - we even use them as stylish flower pots in our canteen.
Insides
Not every elegant box needs an insert - but if it does, we are the professionals for the job. Foam inserts are particularly popular and can be used for almost all products. Even multiple levels are possible, although there are certain limitations. Foam inserts are widely used in the jewellery sector.
So-called universal inserts, which are equipped with several slots, are also practical. This allows the same packaging to be used flexibly and offers space for stud earrings, pendants or entire jewellery sets, for example.
In addition to foam, we also offer cardboard inserts, either simply die-cut or with special cups for a secure hold. For larger quantities, moulded fibre inserts, as used in iPhone packaging, are also an option. They look particularly elegant, are available in black, white or beige, and can even be produced in your desired colour for larger quantities.
Start-up packaging realised: Sturmkind Dr!ft Racer®
We had the privilege of developing a completely customised slip lid box for the innovative start-up Sturmkind. The goal: packaging that embodies the brand and perfectly conveys its message. To achieve this, we integrated the brand logo, matched the cover paper exactly to the brand and finished the whole thing with an elegant hot foil stamping. The result is a box that not only provides protection, but also makes the fascination of Dr!ft Racer tangible as soon as it is unpacked.
According to the developers, the DR!FT Racer® is ‘the first simulation of real driving physics on a scale of 1:43’. In our opinion, it was rightly awarded the German Developer Prize for Innovation in 2018. And we are proud that our packaging has helped to perfectly showcase this unique product.

Insert parts from other suppliers can also be delivered directly to us - we have been doing this successfully for various customers for years.
Thanks to our experience with branch deliveries, for example for GALERIA, we know what matters. The open-topped delivery is also practical: the bottom part is already in the lid, so that the box can be filled directly and then closed - one less step, which makes a big difference.
