The 1560 EARTH series has been setting standards since 2012. Developed by LESER, it was the world's first packaging made from bioplastic. With this series, we made a real statement about sustainability back then.
Made from 100% bio-based plastic derived from corn starch, the series is biodegradable, robust and functional. Perfect for you if you value sustainability but don't want to compromise on stylish design.

What is bioplastic?
Sounds sustainable – but it doesn't have to be. Bioplastic is an umbrella term for various materials. They can be bio-based, biodegradable or both.
Bio-based means that the plastic is made from renewable raw materials such as corn starch, sugar cane or cellulose instead of petroleum. Biodegradable means that the material can be broken down by microorganisms under certain conditions.
Important: Not all bio-based plastics are biodegradable. And not all biodegradable plastics are plant-based.
In short, bioplastics are innovative materials with great potential for sustainable packaging.
Our bioplastic
Our bioplastic is made from PLA (polylactide), a material that is not only bio-based but also biodegradable. Under certain conditions, it can decompose completely in industrial composting facilities.
It is produced in a two-stage synthesis process – without any petroleum. In the first step, corn starch is converted into lactic acid in a fermentation process.
The second step is polymerisation: the lactic acid is first converted into lactide, a ring-shaped molecule, which is then processed into polylactide (PLA).
This creates a stable, processable bioplastic that is ideal for high-quality packaging with a sustainable message.
Advantages of our bioplastic
Sustainable packaging is now indispensable. Jewellery packaging made from bioplastics not only looks good, it can also be processed and finished in exactly the same way as conventional plastic packaging. Only with a significantly better carbon footprint.
And best of all, boxes made from bioplastic are biodegradable. Microorganisms break them down into water, CO₂ and biomass. All of these substances can be recycled by nature. Alternatively, they can be converted into energy in biogas plants or recycled in a CO₂-neutral manner. This creates a closed cycle, just like in nature.
